He completed his Medical School education at SUNY Downstate in 1991, followed by a residency at Albert Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center in Radiology. His passion for neurovascular care led him to pursue further specialization in neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology at the renowned Massachusetts General Hospital.

Early in his career, Dr. Farkas made significant contributions to the field by establishing New Jersey's first academic interventional neuroradiology program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry. As one of the pioneering figures in the field, he played a pivotal role in advancing the treatment of Ischemic Stroke and Carotid Disease using catheter-based techniques. His groundbreaking work led to the early adoption of catheter-based procedures for treating Ischemic Stroke.

In 2004, Dr. Farkas relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he established the Neurointerventional Service line at Maimonides Medical Center and Lutheran Medical Center.
