About Jeffrey Farkas
Dr. Jeffrey Farkas completed Medical School at SUNY Downstate in 1991. He then did a residency at Albert Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center in Radiology. Finally, he completed his neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology training at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital.
Early in his career, Doctor Farkas created New Jersey’s first academic interventional neuroradiology program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry. In the early days of the field, Doctor Farkas spearheaded the treatment of Ischemic Stroke and Carotid Disease using catheter-based techniques. He is one of the first pioneers to use catheter-based procedures to treat Ischemic Stroke.
In 2004 he moved to Brooklyn, New York, to create the NeuroInterventional Service line at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and Lutheran Medical Center. As a result, Lutheran Medical center became was one of the first comprehensive stroke centers in New York State.
Dr. Farkas has written and contributed to influential papers that have advanced the field. He is an international lecturer on stroke therapies and neuroradiology techniques. In addition, he has an active fellowship training program to train future physician leaders. Finally, medical industry manufacturers seek his advice and knowledge to perfect their latest devices for treating strokes and aneurysms.
